Kite Festival 2016

It's amazing what a beautiful earth day event the annual El Sereno Kite Festival has become! Having helped develop the event, we are always so happy to come back every year to add an art component to the day's activities.  This year Andrew Cervantes, our Director of Arts Programming, developed templates for everyone to make petite bee piñatas.  Bees are an important part of our ecosystem and for eARTh day we celebrated them with this fun craft...special thanks to all our ESCA arts family that helped throughout the day!

El Sereno Dia de los Muertos Festival 2015

Dia de los Muertos has brought the El Sereno community together since 2009.  It first began as an Altar Walk where businesses were matched with community members/artists to collaborate on an altar for their storefront windows on Huntington Drive.   Then, last year, the Dia de los Muertos celebration expanded into a full festival where one city block on Huntington Drive closed for the day to honor our ancestors.  El Sereno Dia de los Muertos Festival was born to engage the community in a day of loving compassion and understanding through remembering our deceased loved ones in this ancient Mexican tradition.

The celebration will take place from 1p to 8pm on Huntington Drive from Pueblo to Portola on October 24th.  Activities include:

Altarwalk along Huntington Drive at select Business storefronts (map to come)
Altarwalk in the underground Pedestrian Tunnel by 2 Poets from El Sereno
Bicyclist Memorial Altar by Eastside Bike Club
Community and Veterans Altar at Festival
Central Altar and Ceremonial Blessing by Semillas del Pueblo school
